Legal services and humor don't mix.

April 1 in the United States is April Fool's Day, a massive temptation to attempt humor with a gag post. But humor is difficult to execute well, it's not anything law firm clients will expect or appreciate, and it's not "on brand" for the legal profession.

False information -- even when deployed for humorous purposes -- undermines trust, a critical component of healthy attorney-client relatioships. As David Maister points out in The Trusted Advisor, the more clients trust their attorneys, the more they reach for their advice.

Don't try to be funny in professional communications. Not even on April 1.
